This covered dish is hand-thrown on the potter’s wheel from smooth mid-fire porcelain. The burnished piece is then coated with several layers of custom-dyed black slip to create a slightly coarse finish into which each line of the burned log-inspired surface is individually hand-carved. The intricate charred bark texture is then filled with a black underglaze wash. A glossy obsidian glaze coats the interior, providing striking contrast to the unglazed exterior. Signed on bottom.
