Black sands abstract vessel

This playful jar is built from individual coils of clay and decorated with a heavily textured black slip. Specks of white can be seen throughout the rocky, crackled texture, and bright red accents the lid’s handle. Originally inspired by the anthropomorphic rock structures on Iceland’s black sand beaches, this piece took on a life of its own, perhaps influenced by the playful spirit of the elves of Icelandic folklore. It has been sanded to a finish that begs to be touched.
Please note that while this jar is safe for dry goods, trinkets, etc., its interior glaze is not food safe, and therefore should not be used for ingestible liquids. Handwashing is recommended.
